As Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) continue to increase in popularity and become adapted more and more—we see new innovations. Oculus recently updated their VR headsets with the ability to track hand movements. While not perfect, it is incredible what is being done with the technology. Imagine a world where rather than having to purchase new monitors, keyboards, or computers; you could just put on a pair of glasses that projects a screen, keyboard, runs your computer applications. This is what is being developed by Facebook, owners of Oculus, at this time.
Boz, the Vice President for AR/VR at Facebook put out a tweet stating, “As we think through supercharging remote work and productivity, we’ve been working on mixed reality concepts that build on existing technologies like Passthrough to allow people to switch between real and virtual worlds.” The technology that was demonstrated showcased the ability to add more than 1 monitor, rearrange them by pinching and dragging—and using a keyboard that isn’t physically there. Through hand tracking, we are getting closer to having advanced AR/VR systems such as those shown in Iron Man. We soon will be able to drag applications from one area to a completely different area.
While there is a steep learning curve, there would also be a huge boost in efficiency and a significant reduction in the cost of hardware. We are continuing to innovate faster and more efficiently than ever. Just like AR/VR innovations increasing, here at Limetree Labs, we are also innovating and streamlining our processes to better serve our customer base. Our job is to make it so that you can do your job.
